Privacy & Bot Permissions

CordGrid is a read-only display layer. We believe you should know exactly what our bot can and cannot do, what data we hold, and why — before you install anything.

What CordGrid is

CordGrid gives you a multi-column dashboard to watch Discord channels side-by-side — the same experience you already get inside Discord, just in a different layout.

Our bot joins your server solely to read the message feed in channels you explicitly choose to add to your grid. It is a passive observer. It cannot speak, act, or influence your server in any way.

Messages are fetched from Discord's API in real time and passed directly to your browser. We do not store, index, analyze, or retain message content.

Bot permissions — what we request and why

View Channels

Required to see that a channel exists and to read its message feed. Without this the bot is blind to all channels.

Read Message History

Required to load past messages when you first open a channel column. Without this the bot can only see messages sent after it joined.

Permissions we explicitly do not request

  • Send Messages
  • Manage Messages
  • Manage Channels
  • Manage Roles
  • Kick or Ban Members
  • Administrator
  • Create Slash Commands
  • Access Direct Messages

The bot invite uses scope=bot&permissions=66560 — only the two permissions above. The bot is structurally incapable of posting, deleting, moderating, or creating slash commands in your server.

Data we store

What we store

  • Your Discord user ID and display name
  • Your email address (for account management)
  • The channel IDs and names you add to your grid
  • Your layout preferences (column order, width, font size)

What we never store

  • Message content of any kind
  • Server member lists or profiles
  • Server configurations or role data
  • Any data beyond your personal grid layout

Access control

Every API request is authenticated against your Discord account. Before displaying any channel data, CordGrid verifies that:

  • You have an active CordGrid account
  • You are a current member of the Discord server the channel belongs to
  • The channel is one you have personally added to your own grid

A user in one server cannot access, view, or request data from channels in a server they are not a member of. Grids are fully isolated per user account.

How data flows

Discord APICordGrid serverYour browser

Messages travel from Discord's servers to CordGrid's server in transit, then immediately forwarded to your browser over an encrypted connection. Nothing is written to disk. CordGrid is a pass-through, not a data store.

CordGrid is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord Inc.
